LQHBA to Award Scholarships Saturday Night


LQHBA will award $11,000 in scholarships to during the $1 Million LQHBA Breeders' Futurity night at Evangeline Downs Saturday.



OPELOUSAS, LA—NOVEMBER 25, 2015—LQHBA will award five scholarships during festivities on LQHBA Million Dollar Breeders' Futurity Night at Evangeline Downs Saturday.

The LQHBA Board selected four $1,500 receipts from entries that were submitted to the organization by Louisiana high school graduates or a student who is graduating from a Louisiana high school in 2016.

Scholarship entrants had to be a Louisiana high school graduate or a student who is graduating from a Louisiana High School in 2016 and will attend a higher education institution in the calendar year 2016. The scholarships are limited to the cost of tuition, books (electronic or printed) and required electronic study materials only. The proceeds of the scholarship will be paid directly to the educational institution the recipient attends.

In addition a special $5,000 live scholarship drawing will be held in the winner's circle, prior to the 3rd race at Evangeline Downs Saturday night. Louisiana high-school graduates and seniors graduating in 2016 must must register in person between 4:30 pm. and 6:00 p.m. at Evangeline Downs on the first floor in the vicinity of the clubhouse elevators for a chance to win. The track is located at 2235 Creswell Lane Extension, Opelousas, Louisiana.

The four $1,500 Scholarship winners are:

  • Austin Harris from Springfield, LA
  • Rhett Sonnier from Abbeville, LA
  • Alexis Walker from Springfield, LA
  • Kade Williams, Deville, LA
  • The stallion Tee Cos and Michelle Mitchell are contributors who have funded these great scholarships for these Louisiana students. In all a total of $11,000 in scholarships will be awarded that evening, which also corresponds with the $1 million LQHBA Breeders' Futurity final at the racetrack.

    All scholarship recipients are required to participate in promotional photos receiving their scholarship award certificate.
